Chapter 4 Healing Journey
- Liang’s pov
- Liang was just finishing up his rounds in the pack’s infirmary when his phone let out a shrill sound. It was ringing and the display showed Alpha Ryan wood. Ryan wood was the alpha of an American pack. They met when liang attended last year’s Alpha conference, the two hit it off and were close since then despite their packs being in two different continents.
- “Hello, what’s up man?”
- “Hello. Good evening prince liang, sorry for calling this late. How’s it going with you and the pack?”
- Liang chuckled at the title. Ryan never stopped calling him that no matter how many times he had told him to stop.
- “Evening man. I’m fine the pack’s great but I have to wonder what’s with the night call?”
- “Well, I have an issue”
- Liang could hear the alpha’s tired sigh over the phone. Whatever was troubling the usually perky Ryan wood was definitely a cause for concern. He sat down in his office and closed his door.
- “You can talk to me man. I’m here for you”
- “The issue is that you know how I told you I found my mate yeah? Her dad is sick with prostate cancer and he’s been to all the were hospitals all over the world but they can’t cure him. Human hospitals are also out of the question since he’s were like us so I would really appreciate it if you come over to London where he is bedridden in his home to take a look and see if you can do anything to help his health. Please liang, I know you’re busy with the pack and all but I can’t just let my mate’s dad die like that. If you say yes, the trip’s just gonna last for a week tops and I will cover all the expenses. Please man” it was surreal to hear the desperate plea in his friend’s voice. It definitely went to show how much he loved his mate.
- “Of course I would help you man. Just give me like two days to push some things in the pack around and tidy up and then I will be there in two days”
- “Oh thank you liang. I’m so grateful, Shannon would be so elated ” liang was such a selfless alpha Ryan thought. His powers and personality definitely didn’t rhyme. For that he was most grateful to the moon goddess.
- “I owe you one, liang”
- “Yh no problem. Just give me like your first born son.” Liang teased his friend, happy to hear the smile in his voice.
- They finalized plans for the trip and bid each other farewell before disconnecting the call.
- After getting the usual daily reports from his beta. Liang strolled tiredly to his room. It had bee a day so he would have to inform the pack of his impending trip tomorrow. He always like to treat them as a family and that included keeping them abreast of any plans he made that would affect them.
- The next day, liang called for a pack meeting and announced that he was traveling in two days to help heal a sick friend’s father. The pack didn’t want him to go but they quietened when he reminded them that it was a life or death situation.
- “Alpha liang, you called”
- “Yes kang. I want you to tighten the security at the four perimeters surrounding the pack and also I wanted to ask how the training of the cubs are going” the cubs in question were wolves of betwen ten to fifteen who wanted to learn self defense or any kind of defense really. Liang was a firm believer of preparing for anything and though the walls haven’t been breached in years. That could still happen and he needed the cubs to know how to defend themselves.
- “Already done, my prince” the reason that had solidified kang’s position as his beta was his uncanny ability to read liang’s mind. It made him a magnificent asset in battle and other matters.
- “The cubs training are going well though they request your presence once in a while” that was code for they requested their alpha’s presence all the time. Kang was just being kang.
- “I’ll handle their training tomorrow.”
- “Yes alpha and Yh I have a question. Who’s dad are you going to heal on your trip?”
- “I have a question being posed as a question requires a response to continue or not kang” the beta just shrugged, a somewhat sheepish smile on his face.
- “It’s ryan. Alpha ryan wood. His mate’s dad has cancer”
- “Moon goddess!” The teasing smile disappeared from kang’s face as his expression turned solemn. His dad had died after a difficult struggle with cancer so he was no stranger to the gruesome disease. There was no love lost between them. He hoped Alpha Ryan’s in-law was cured though. He would tell his mate to say a prayer for the man who fathered the courteous alpha.
- “Indeed. I’ll try my best though and I need you to hold the fort till I’m back” liang knew he didn’t have to tell kang that.
- “Don’t I always? The pack will be fine . Just take care and maybe come back with a mate” he half teased.
- “Yeah right”
- It’s not like liang didn’t want a mate, he did. He just didn’t think this was the right time, his wolf raised his head as if to disagree with him. This was one of the few topics they didn’t agree on.
- “I’ll miss you my boy. Make sure you don’t skip any meals no matter how busy you get over there, okay?”
- Mama bao embraced him tightly as she cried as if he was leaving. He was used to her genuine theatrics though. The pack to as they didn’t bat an eye at their alpha being coddled in public.
- “I’ll be fine bao-bao. It’s just a week” he hugged her back though. She was like a mother to him and he loved her for the selfless care she had always shown him. He bid them farewell and walked up to the private jet Ryan had hired for him.
- It had been three days and Shannon’s father’s health seemed to be recovering and liang was grateful for that. The old wolf had a sanguine personality, it seemed a shame that he would die in his seventies. On the day liang was supposed to go back to his pack, him and ryan decided to hang out at a local pub to celebrate his in-law recovery.
- “She’s hot though. Don’t you think so?” It seemed Ryan had resumed his convincing of liang to get himself laid if not find a mate.
- “I guess she is”
- “Are you gay, man? Not that it’s an issue. It would definitely make me understand why you don’t find Daenerys look alike hot.like comeon man” Ryan shot him an exasperated look as he took a shot of tequila.
- “Your American’s showing man”
- Ryan just rolled his eyes and stood up abruptly. Liang pushed him down before he did something crazy like walk up to that innocent woman for him. It’s not like she wasn’t hot because she was hot in that sultry way but he just didn’t feel like going there.
- “Do your pack members know that you’re such a lightweight Ryan?”
- Liang shook his head at his friend who just sat there with a loopy grin on his face. He should have told Shannon to accompany them. He told the bartender to start bringing water instead of shots to their table. Ryan protested but liang ignored him. He was not even a bit tipsy. He couldn’t remember ever being drunk even in his partying days which he chalked up to the fact that he was an alpha wolf. It was a real wonder why Ryan , an alpha too was a lightweight though.
- When Ryan sobered up enough to call his driver. They went home to meet Shannon pacing in the living room. She smiled ruefully at him and told him that she couldn’t sleep without her mate. Liang just chuckled at her and dragged his ass upstairs to the room the woods had given him . He was too tired to think about mates tonight.
- The next day, liang checked finally on his patient who was all better now. He bid his friend farewell before carrying his bags to the jet. It was time to go home. He enjoyed his stay here but he definitely missed his pack. He vaguely wondered if they missed him too.
- They did miss him. This was confirmed when he got home to meet a welcome party in his honor complete with party trumpets and all. Shaking his head at what he knew was his beta’s idea, he greeted the pack with joy in his heart.
- “Alpha” it was an almost crying mama bao. The petite beta wolf sure did love to cry. Liang hugged her and let her turn him this way and that as if to check for injuries. When she was satisfied , she shooed him to his bedroom knowing he needed to rest. liang bade the pack good night and retired to his room jet lagged, he never did care much for flying.
