• A light puff of smoke blew in Yugo’s face, and he coughed lightly. The room was dark save for the singular light bulb casting a dark glow on Yugo and his torturer. His face was barely recognizable with the swollen shut eye and bruised cheeks. Yugo had lost track of the number of beatings he had received from Santiago and his men; he had lost track of time and day too, and all he knew was that he was in hell, and his torturer was enjoying every second of it.
• His hands twitched, one of them missing the ring finger but had been sewn shut and burned with fire for effect. If only he was free, then he could kill Santiago for doing this to him; then he could take his sister and mother and run far away from all of this madness.
• “What’s on your mind, my little fuck-up?” he asked and grabbed his hair roughly. “I should beat you up again, but your sister is doing a good job, and I promised your safety for a time, so I guess we should just talk.”
