Chapter 20 020

• Once she was fully dressed, she unlocked the door and stepped out of the room. The house was quiet. So quiet that she could hear her own footsteps as she moved gracefully towards the stairs that led back downstairs.
• Apart from the quietness, there was no one in sight, even in the living room. She stood there and looked around, wondering where everyone had gone. Just as she decided to head back to her room, she heard footsteps and turned in the direction of the kitchen to see a maid approaching.
• “Good morning, Mrs. Connor,” said the elderly woman when her eyes fell on Ella. She seemed friendly which was something that surprised Ella. Her experience with Miss Bethany had affected the way she viewed maids and workers of other rich families, especially this one.
