Chapter 61
- “You are not to speak unless spoken to. If anybody asks, say that I shifted and ran here while you rode on my back.” Lucas’s voice is low, edged with warning.
- I ignore his command, spinning around to take in the endless stretch of forest surrounding us. The towering trees press in on all sides, their branches forming a dense canopy that allows only slivers of moonlight to filter through. The silence between us is thick, but I break it anyway.
- “Then why did we take a horse?” I snap, turning back to face him. “You’ve gotten us stranded.”
