- Besides, Ruth’s silence was an answer in itself. She was still seeing him. And given that Lucas and I were now staying in the servants’ wing—the very place where late-night rendezvous often took place—she was probably upset about it.
- I bit back a chuckle, recalling the elaborate plan Ruth and I had concocted to sneak in here. In hindsight, I was glad Lucas had put an end to it.
