• The Second declared that we are not allowed to have children, but I can’t help wondering if that prohibition extends to any form of intimacy. Does it mean we’re forbidden from having any kind of relationship at all?
• The thought weighs on me, and my mind turns to Isabel—the only person I know well enough here to ask. But she wouldn’t give me a serious answer, not with her apparent dislike for me. She’d probably run straight to the guards and gleefully report my indiscretions.
• Peter might be a better option. He’s friendly and approachable, and I’m certain he’d agree to be with me if I asked. But before putting him at risk, I need to know the rules. The consequences of breaking them could be dire.
