- I had feared that after the attack, Catherine wouldn’t want to be near me—or any man, for that matter. But, to my relief, she doesn’t seem to remember much. The human girl assured me that Catherine lost consciousness before my guard attempted to force himself on her. Still, a part of me worries that she knows more than she lets on.
- The guard swore to take the secret to his grave, and I made it clear to the girl what would happen should she even consider speaking of the incident. If Catherine doesn’t remember, then there is no reason for her to know.
- She stands before me now, arms crossed tightly over her chest, her voice filled with a frustration I know she doesn’t truly feel.
