- “Sorry, I didn’t realize,” I murmur, my voice barely above a whisper. Guilt prickles under my skin as I step back, silently wishing the floor would open up and swallow me whole.
- Clark visibly relaxes the moment I withdraw my hand from Lucas. His shoulders ease, his rigid posture softening with a long, deliberate exhale. Without another word, he approaches Lucas’s motionless body, his eyes narrowing with a critical frown as he surveys the scene.
