Gunshots rang out behind her, and she ducked instinctively, her heart racing even faster. She glanced in the rearview mirror and saw the guards giving chase, their vehicles quickly closing the distance. She had to lose them, and fast.
Hailey navigated the van through the winding roads, her eyes darting between the road ahead and the rearview mirror. She needed to find a way to shake them off. The darkness of the night provided some cover, but the guards were relentless.
She spotted a narrow dirt path branching off from the main road and made a split-second decision to take it but a call came to her. Struggling to pick up the call and drive straight, she managed to pick up the call and put it on speaker.
