Chapter 6 Children Fighting for Attention

  • Samuel nodded. "Mommy can be clumsy and gullible sometimes. And Sebastian is a dummy, a coward, and a crybaby. He cried again just now because he doesn't know how to fight back when others pick on him. I don't understand what the point of crying is. Daddy, I can't leave them alone, or else they'll get in trouble."
  • Bella couldn't help but burst into laughter. Samuel is behaving like a little adult.
  • Even though he is roasting Sebastian, he still stepped up like the dependable brother he is to defend Sebastian just now. And that's the opposite of what he said.
  • Sebastian was blushing furiously. He rushed over to the phone and explained, "I just cried a little bit! I even pulled a magic trick on that witch!"
  • "That's because Mommy reminded you that you finally remembered you could do it! I bet you wouldn't have stopped crying if it wasn't for Mommy's reminder."
  • "Nonsense! I-I only cried a little."
  • Bella took the phone from her son and walked toward the balcony. "I'm sorry, Charlie. The kids talk too much."
  • She met Charlie during the shoot of a parent and child show in another country. Charlie Chester was just his stage name. He appeared in the show as the two boys' 'intern dad'.
  • Bella thought they would have gone their separate ways and would not see each other again after the shooting ended. To her surprise, the boys and he bonded over the TV show. Even after the show, they still addressed him as 'Daddy' on every occasion.
  • "It's not a big deal. But what Sam said just now is right. The entertainment industry is the same wherever you are. I can't be there for you, so you have to look out for yourself. Or—"
  • "Hmm..." Bella drawled before shooting him a question to tease him. "Charlie, are you questioning my ability?"
  • Don't you take me as an unsophisticated young woman.
  • He paused before explaining to her in acceptance of defeat, "I'm just worried about you."
  • Her smile stiffened a little before she shifted her attention to Sophia, who was looking down at the Rubik's cube in her hands, and praised, "Sophia, you have gotten better with it."
  • The amused glint in Charlie's eyes dimmed as she changed the topic instead of answering him.
  • ...
  • Bella returned to the room and found Samuel sitting in front of the laptop again. Upon seeing her in the room, Sebastian put his arms around her leg as he looked up at her with teary eyes. "Mom! S-Sam is ignoring me!"
  • She stifled a laugh before teasing, "That's mean."
  • "That's right! Sam is so mean!"
  • Samuel turned back and cast a glance at his brother before calling out to Bella, "Mommy, look at this."
  • "What did you find?"
  • Bella picked Sebastian up and walked over to Samuel. There was a lot of text on the screen and reading them strained her eyes.
  • She shut her eyes and massaged the bridge of her nose. "It's hard to read. My head hurts. Just tell me what it is about."
  • "This is the information of some entertainment companies in the country. Aside from Aarla Entertainment, other companies are also making offers to you. Besides, their offers are much better than Aarla's."
  • Her son's sharing caught her off guard. The fingers that were massaging the bridge of her nose stopped sharply.
  • Aaron Fowler, you cheapskate! You're taking me as a fool!
  • After pondering for a moment, she replied with a simple answer, "Thanks. I got it."
  • "Mom, I suggest you choose one of the other companies. They're making better offers."
  • Chuckling, Bella reached out a hand to caress his head. "You're such a dependable child. I'm glad you're my son."
  • The corner of Samuel's lips twitched in awkwardness. He pouted, wanting to shun her gesture. Closing the laptop quickly, he slipped away from under her hand.
  • "Mom, don't touch my head like that. I'm not a little kid anymore."
  • Sebastian's eyes lit up at that. He pushed his head in Bella's direction. "You can touch mine. I like head pats."
  • Samuel rolled his eyes at Sebastian. "You're such a mama's boy!"
  • "So? I'm Mommy's son, after all. You can have Mommy's head pats too, but you dislike her touching your head."
  • Bella was speechless.
  • Come on, not again.
