• Kane expected her usual sarcastic comments meant to hide her feelings and get him riled up, but they didn't come. She whispered softly, but not meekly, "I'd like to leave now."
• This is what was meant to happen. He was going to break her until she had no fight left in her, until she just disappeared from his mind. But anger coursed through his entire body, and it was only directed at himself this time. He didn't want her to go. He didn't want to stop touching her. She'd been waiting for him all this time, and no matter how many times he called her a liar, a slut, and accused her of unthinkable things, she still wanted him.
