Chapter 22

• Celeste
• "So, which one of you is babysitting me tonight?" Celeste asks Wilder as they walk across campus toward her next class, which he happens to be in too. People make an effort to move out of his way, and Celeste realizes that he's so used to that special treatment that he probably doesn't notice it anymore. She holds her hand out palm up, trying to feel if it's started drizzling yet, but so far the ominous gray clouds are only threatening to soak the campus. Thankfully, no other threats have come her way, at least that she knows of. She wouldn't be shocked if the Wolves were hiding things from her, but she's decided not to focus on things that are out of her control.
• She doesn't bring up the fact that she hasn't seen or heard from Kane since they got back from their little off-campus adventure or that she's stayed up thinking about him more nights than she wants to admit. She's just a toy for him, something to play with when he's bored or feeling particularly cruel, but her feelings for him are sincere. She's always been drawn to him, since the first day she met him, and nothing he does changes that.
