Chapter 6
- Claire's POV
- I was the first to arrive in the arena. Maybe it was the adrenaline or the excitement of being here. Everyone knew how rigorously the Red Moon Pack trained. I might have fantasized about this moment a few times but it was finally coming through.
- Large doors opened and a bunch of female wolves walked in. All in different sizes and all much larger than me. I was starting to get skeptical.
- Maybe this was a bad idea.
- It was too late to turn back as Darien walked into the ring. He raised a hand and the rowdy room fell silent. I looked around, wondering what exactly was happening.
- "Now!!"
- Every wolf went for another and I was left looking around like a lost pup. From my peripheral vision, a wolf came for my ankle but I moved with a fast reflect. She seemed to be the weakest in the bunch and thought it was easier coming for me. This went on for minutes till I put her down.
- *******
- Training ended hours later and I breathed heavily from exhaustion.
- Was he trying to kill me? If he was, he might just succeed.
- I let out a loud moan, sinking deeper into the bathtub. The flowery scented candles filled the room with its fragrance while my playlist blasted Seven by JUNGKOOK. The tension left me in seconds. I wished I could stay in forever.
- A deep, low, sultry voice spoke.
- "You were okay at training. You still need practice, lots of practice. If you go out to the field, you will be killed."
- I snapped out of the bliss as I let out a scream, my arms hurriedly gathering the bubbles towards me, anything to cover my nudity.
- He rolled his eyes. "It's not like I haven't seen it before. All women's are the same and I'll be seeing yours soon."
- I snapped. "You've seen some and not mine and I'd like to keep it that way for as long as possible."
- He paused, his eyes giving me a one-over. My gaze dropped to my chest immediately but I wasn't exposed. What was he looking at?
- "Too bad."
- I froze.
- My neck snapped so fast in his direction I almost heard a crack. "What do you mean?"
- "The results are in. They came back a few days ago but since you wouldn't come out of your room and I've been swamped with alpha duties, here we are." He took a seat by the sink, his gaze not leaving me for a second.
- "Why are you getting comfortable and why didn't you tell me when I came into your room earlier? Why wait till now?" I was starting to freak out a little. The results were in and I would be bedding him sooner than I expected judging from the smirk that sat arrogantly on his lips.
- He was getting annoyed. "My apologies if your sultry gaze had me distracted."
- I blushed. I seemed to do that a lot around him and I doubted that was good for me.
- "Do I affect you that much? You turn all shades of red around me. I wonder what would happen if I came close." His arms folded around his chest as his head cocked to the side. He was genuinely curious and it didn't sit well with me.
- Trying to save myself from the embarrassment, I uttered the partial truth. "Wouldn't it be weirder if your presence didn't affect me? You are my mate after all" I tried shrugging it off as nothing but he wasn't letting the topic die.
- "True but if it was just the mate bond you wouldn't be trying to get to know me better."
- I was confused. "What do you mean?"
- He smirked, "Audrey, the lady who accompanied you to the infrimary told me how you tried snooping around about me. If it was just the mate bond, you wouldn't care about me." He got off the sink. "Except tried to bed me that is."
- The conversation wasn't going to do me any good and staying any closer to him would be dangerous, for me. I did something stupid. I got out of the bathtub and TOTALLY NAKED.
- We both froze. Our gaze stayed on each other before he dropped to my neck. I felt on fire as his eyes traced every curve I had on me. The urge to grab the robe behind him was strong but I couldn't find the strength in me to move. His gaze had me pinned on the spot as I felt weak in the knee.
- I gulped as he took slow strides toward me. It felt like forever before he stood right in front of me. His gaze darkened and I knew his wolf had come out.
- He growled."Mate!"
- I would be scared if his coarse hand hadn't taken mine in his, pulling me into him. My boobs made contact with his chest, wetting the light shirt he had on, the only thing stopping our bodies from touching.
- He pushed his nose into my neck, taking in my scent.
- "I love your scent. You smell like flowers," he mumbled as his lips grazed ever so lightly on my earlobes, teasing me. "I used to hate flowers but I'm not so sure anymore. You make me unsure about a lot of things," he grunted out.
- His face remained buried in my neck. "I'm never myself around you. You infuriate me with how stubborn and clumsy you are but at the same time you are not scared of me which makes me question everything."
- I moaned under my breath and he caught it, his lips moved inches over mine. Just like the first time, my eyes closed waiting for him to make me his, and like the first time I was met with disappointment again.
- I let out a low whimper when he took several steps back, leaving me cold without his touch.
- I was left confused.
- Did he want me or did he not want me?
- "What's wrong?" I questioned when he walked away from me like I repulsed him, a contrast to his behavior minutes ago. He acted like he couldn't breathe without me and now he looked like he loathed me.
- "We shouldn't rush into this. I mean, we are mating tonight anyway."
