• "Tristan, how long are you going to keep drinking like this?" Nicholas chided, sitting with Tristan at their regular bar.
• Nicholas had been home already, getting ready for a date with Claire. Just minutes before he was to leave, Tristan called suddenly. The man asked to be picked up because he was drunk and unable to drive home later. Worried, Nicholas reluctantly agreed to fetch him.
• Sure enough, when Nicholas arrived at Connaugh Bar in Mayfair, he found Tristan sitting alone, half-drunk, still nursing a drink. Occasionally, Nicholas heard his friend rambling, though he couldn't make out what he was saying.
