- The kitchen was quiet, the soft glow of the overhead light casting long shadows across the countertops. Jane stood by the sink, rinsing a few dishes from dinner, her movements slow and deliberate. Her mind was far from the task at hand, though. The recent tension within the Castellano household, coupled with the threats looming over the family, had left her feeling restless.
- Behind her, she heard the soft creak of the wooden floorboards. She didn’t have to turn around to know it was Luca. His presence had become familiar, a steadying force in the midst of the chaos that seemed to follow them all. He stopped just behind her, his voice low and hesitant.
