  • The rain came down in soft sheets, coating the streets in a glistening sheen as Jane hurried to her car, her umbrella doing little to shield her from the chill. The day had been long, and all she wanted was to get home, kick off her shoes, and forget about the mountain of grading waiting for her tomorrow. But as she reached her car, she noticed someone leaning against the hood—a tall, familiar figure with a leather jacket and an air of nonchalance that could only belong to one person.
  • “Luca,” Jane said, exasperation creeping into her voice. “What are you doing here?”
  • He straightened, his hands shoved into his jacket pockets, his expression unreadable. “Saw you heading out. Thought I’d catch you.”
