  • Maya leaned against the kitchen counter, staring blankly at the steam rising from her cup of tea. The cabin was quiet for now, the children safely asleep upstairs, but her mind refused to rest. Victor Castellano loomed over her thoughts like a shadow, his threats hanging heavy in the air. She had worked so hard to keep her children safe, to give them a life far away from the danger Rafael's world represented. And now it all felt like it was slipping through her fingers.
