• The atmosphere in the cabin was tense. Maya sat at the small kitchen table, her gaze darting toward the window every few moments. She had barely touched her tea, the liquid now cold in her cup. Something felt off—like a storm brewing just out of sight.
• The phone rang, snapping her out of her thoughts. She grabbed it quickly, her fingers trembling when she saw Jane’s name on the screen.
