  • The morning sunlight filtered through Rafael’s office windows, casting long shadows across his desk. Stacks of papers lay scattered in a semblance of order, but Rafael wasn’t paying attention to them. His mind was elsewhere—on Maya.
  • Her evasive behavior had been eating away at him for weeks. Every time he tried to get close, she pushed him away, putting up walls that only fueled his suspicions. He couldn’t let it go anymore. Something was wrong, and he needed to know what.
  • As he sifted through the files his investigator had sent, something unusual caught his eye. A small manila envelope lay buried beneath the documents, unlabeled and sealed. With a frown, Rafael opened it, pulling out a photograph.
