  • Kael stormed out of the council chamber, his body thrumming with rage. His mind raced, replaying every word spoken in that room, every accusation hurled at Chloe. How could they think so little of her? How could they sit there, so self-righteous, and judge her without knowing the truth?
  • As he turned a corner, his sharp eyes caught a familiar figure lingering in the hallway. Astrid leaned against the stone wall, arms crossed, her hair gleaming in the torchlight. She looked as calm and collected as ever, but Kael could see the tension in her posture.
  • “Astrid,” Kael growled, his voice low and dangerous.
