Chapter 9 A Deadly Encounter (1)

  • Philip’s heart pounded as he looked at the eyes that were staring right back at him. He could feel the blood thirst from the eyes, filled with killing intent. His heart throbbed intensely from shock and the fear that had appeared in his mind.
  • He almost felt his blood freezing from the stare that he was receiving from the creature.
  • It was also at this moment that Philip finally managed to see the figure of the creature that had been attacking. Looking at it, Philip found it to be outrageous.
  • The creature was actually a wild boar. It was quite massive in size, standing almost 1.5m tall. It was quite ferocious to look at, especially at the two tusks that glinted under the light from the blinking lights of the car.
  • Looking at its body, it was as if this wild boar was covered in metallic scales. And, this was the first time that he was seeing a wild boar that had scales!
  • Even if this was an apocalypse, Philip found it quite outrageous. After all, not to mention that this creature that was not supposed to have scales possessed them, it was also incredibly fast despite its huge body.
  • Philip finally understood what this wild boar was depending on when it was attacking the car. With the scales that were covering its body, it was clear that its defenses were extremely high. That, including the extreme speed that it possessed, this creature was extremely formidable.
  • At this moment, Philip felt a little bitter. If he had known that this was the creature that he was facing, he would have definitely not used all the points to increase his speed and agility. He would have used it in his strength, allow him to be able to break through the defenses of this creature.
  • But now, since he had already improved his speed, he had to find a way of running away. No matter what, without any weapon, it was almost impossible for him to be able to deal with this creature.
  • All those thoughts appeared in Philip’s mind within just a few seconds. He was able to process his thoughts at such a speed due to the enhancements that he had received since he killed the first zombie.
  • Grrr!
  • The wild boar that was staring at him suddenly let out a growl. Then in the next moment, it began charging at Philip. The speed was astonishing!
  • Philip had already anticipated that this was going to happen. But when it did, he was shocked. He had thought that after increasing his speed, he would be able to at least match the speed of this wild boar.
  • But it turned out that he was wrong. With his muscles tense, he exerted all his strength on his right foot, before pushing off the ground. With that, he managed to jump to the side, only to barely dodge the attack of the wild boar.
  • When the wild boar flashed past him, the wind that was generated by its speed blew Philips hair, messing it up. At the same time, the wild boar collided with a small tree that was along its path, knocking it down completely.
  • Philip felt a shiver running down his spine when he saw that. Not to mention that he currently did not have any weapon on him, he did not believe that he had the capability of withstanding such an impact from this creature.
  • So, without any hint of hesitation, just after he had managed to stabilize his footing, he wasted no time and began running away. What could he do? It was impossible for him to be able to deal with this creature.
  • Though, in his heart, he was feeling slightly resentful. Just a few moments ago, he was thinking about his family being in danger. But now, he was also in danger. Additionally, all the supplies that he had gotten, they were all within the car, and with the current state of the car, Philip was not sure if most of the things that he had collected would survive.
  • Using his incredible speed, Philip went deeper into the forest. It was impossible for him to run to the road, as at least within the forest, he might be able to find somewhere to hide.
  • While running, he kept on glancing behind him, to make sure that he would not be in the direct path of the wild boar when it came charging at him.
  • Sweat was already dripping from his face due to the stimulation that he had experienced within just a minute or two. But he did not care, moving at incredible speeds that were beyond what an ordinary human could achieve.
  • As compared to before the Apocalypse, Phillip’s current speed was more than doubled.
  • The maximum attribute for a human was 10 points for each attribute. But that was if someone managed to reach the full potential of the human body. So, despite Philip being an athlete, he had not managed to touch the limits of the human body.
  • In fact, most ordinary humans only had 5 stat points for each attribute. So, with him having 8 points for the strength attribute, he was at least three points above ordinary humans, almost double.
  • But it was clear that despite the improvements that he had experienced after the apocalypse descended, they were not helping at all, at least in the current situation.
  • Philip could clearly hear the sound of something approaching from behind. The vegetation along the way was being knocked down by the wild boar that was charging at him aggressively.
  • Philip looked behind him, and he could see that the distance between himself and the wild boar was only less than 10 meters. Comparing his speed and that of the wild boar, it was only just a matter of time until the boar got to him.
  • Philip’s mind began thinking of solutions to the current situation. He had to find a method of handling this wild boar. Unless something distracted it, or it was injured, Philip realized that it was impossible for him to be able to get away from it.
  • He thought of something, and immediately, he changed the direction, running to the left. He was moving parallel to the road now, having already gone quite deep into the forest.
  • Just a few seconds after he had made the turn, the wild boar went past the place that he had made the turn. Then, it stopped, but it was clear that stopping was not that simple for the wild boar. So, it took it quite a while for it to be able to stop.
  • Then, its brown eyes looked ferociously towards the direction that Philip was running in. The next moment, it began charging towards him again.
  • At this point, Philip had realized something. It seemed that the agility of this wild boar was extremely low. While its speed had been increased, with the descent of the apocalypse, the same could not be said about its agility.
  • Additionally, it seemed that this creature could only move in a single direction. If it wanted to change direction, it would need to stop first. But, that was something that he had only observed once, and he was not really sure about it.
  • Due to the duration that this wild boar took in order to make a turn and start running towards him again, the distance between them had once again increased to about 17 meters. But with the speed at which this creature was approaching with, the distance was already shortening.
  • Thinking about what he had realized, Philip made yet another turn. He began moving towards the road this time.
  • He had no intention of diving deeper into this forest. It was a natural forest, and quite a number of creatures could be found within this forest.
  • With the example of the wild boar, Philip had already realized that it seemed that the zombies were not the only dangers that the humans would face at the start of the apocalypse. So, if he ended up moving deeper into the forest, and encountered even more mutated wild animals, the situation would get more dangerous.
  • Despite what he was thinking, Philip did not dare to stop. As for fighting back against this creature, even without trying out the defenses of the wild boar, he already knew what would be the result if he used a baseball bat to attack it.
  • Not to mention that he did not have any weapon on him at the moment, just from the fact that this creature was unscathed despite all the collisions against the car and the trees, it was clear that its defenses were something that he could not deal with.
  • Behind him, the same scene as before occurred. The wild boar had no other choice but to stop first, before changing the direction and rushing towards him while growling.
  • This immediately verified Philip’s conjecture. It was clear to him now, if he wanted to deal with this creature, then he would have to make several turns. Otherwise, moving in a straight line, he would only be asking for death.
  • Looking at the creature that was already closing in at him, Philip yet made another turn. He was rushing towards the direction of the car. He did not want to get far away from it, so that if there was a chance, maybe he could recover the resources that he had managed to gather.
  • He was not that familiar with this road that he had taken, and was not sure if there was going to be any convenience store along the way. And even if there was any, he could not guarantee that he could deal with the zombies that would probably be there.
  • But as he was running, considering that he was moving at his maximum speed, Philip realized something. He was already breathing heavily due to exerting himself, and moving at his maximum speed for more than 3 minutes now.
  • While it was clear that his stamina had been increased with the improvement of his constitution, his speed was also increased, especially after he used the free attribute points. That implied that the rate at which he was consuming his stamina was way beyond what an ordinary human body could handle.
  • And looking at the relentless boar behind him, Philip understood. He would need to find a way of dealing with this creature before he was exhausted. Otherwise, he would only run around, before ending up being killed, after no longer being capable of running away.
  • But the problem was, how was he supposed to deal with such a creature? In terms of speed, he was inferior. And his strength, he was not sure he was going to be capable of breaking through the defenses of the wild boar..
