Chapter 8 Precarious Situation

  • The sudden impact from the side made the car tilt to the left. But due to the fact that the car was not moving at a high speed, it did not roll over.
  • Still, Philip realized that the passenger door of the car had dented in. This made him feel chills running down his spine, as he thought, if that attack had landed on him, what would be the result?
  • But at the same time, he was questioning himself, just what had attacked him. After all, from his encounter with the zombies, they were definitely not strong enough to be able to dent the car’s door.
  • Regardless, he reacted, trying to speed up. Unless he was sure what he was facing, he would not recklessly get out of the car.
  • But the car had only began accelerating when suddenly, from the rear view mirror of the car, Philip noticed a black shadow dashing towards the car. And even before he could react, the car was suddenly impacted from behind.
  • Due to this, Philip was thrown backwards, before suddenly jerking forward in the next second. It was as if the car had suddenly sped up, before braking suddenly.
  • Since Philip had not put on the seat belts, just in case he was required to leave the car fast, his head collided with the dashboard of the car. But instead of feeling pain, something that surprised him occurred.
  • The plastic layer of the dashboard suddenly cracked. While the damage was not that high, Philip did not feel any kind of pain after the collision.
  • He Immediately understood that this was related to his improvement in terms of constitution. With a stronger constitution, it implied that his defenses would also be higher.
  • But Philip did not have that much time to think about this thing. Instead, he continued driving forward. Despite the impact from the back of the car, the car was still functional, and Philip had not yet discovered what was attacking.
  • All that he had seen was a black shadow, but it was moving too fast for him to be able to tell what it was. So, the best decision that he could make at this moment was to get out of here as fast as possible.
  • Just from the impact, Philip understood that this was not something that an ordinary person or zombie could do. And since this was the apocalypse, with the information clearly stating that in this apocalypse, dangers were everywhere, he did not hesitate at all.
  • It was a good thing that he was not at a junction or a corner. Otherwise, the sudden impact and the sudden acceleration of the car might have led to the car getting out of the road.
  • With his heart racing, Philip tried to maneuver the car. At the same time, he was using all the available mirrors of the car to observe, to know what was attacking.
  • Due to his enhanced agility, which enhanced his reflexes, he was able to react, managing to make sure that the car did not steer away from the road.
  • Since he was cautious at this moment, Philip suddenly noticed that the shadow was approaching from behind once again. The speed of the creature that was approaching was so astonishing.
  • Philip tried to turn the car, to get out of the way of the creature. But the car that had not accelerated to its full speed could not compare to the creature that was attacking.
  • For that reason, despite the car managing to move slightly to the side, it was not enough for it to be able to dodge the attack.
  • Bang!
  • The impact from the attack was quite massive. Due to Philip trying to dodge the attack, the impact made it difficult for him to be able to fully control the car.
  • And due to the speed at which the car was moving, despite Philip stepping on the brakes, the tires of the car could not stop, and the car immediately went from the road.
  • Bang!
  • As the car barreled down the road at high speed, the collision with the massive tree brought everything to a sudden halt. The front of the pickup crumpled inward with a metallic shriek, glass shattering and metal folding as the airbags were deployed immediately.
  • Philip, unrestrained by a seatbelt, was hurled forward with unstoppable momentum. His enhanced physique, stronger than any normal human’s, meant his body withstood the g-forces that would have instantly killed an ordinary person.
  • His torso struck the partially-inflated airbag, but the force still drove his shoulders and head hard into the dashboard, leaving a deep indentation in the molded plastic. The windshield cracked violently, but his body remained inside the cabin.
  • The impact sent a shockwave through his reinforced muscles of his neck and spine, but he stayed conscious, bruised yet not broken.
  • All this happened so suddenly, and there was nothing that Philip could do. Even though he could have jumped out of the car, outside, there was an unknown creature, and the danger might be higher than staying in the car.
  • Philip’s forehead felt slightly sore from the collision with the dashboard. Even though the airbag appeared on time, with Philip not wearing the seat belt, the impact of the collision was obviously going to be dangerous.
  • But lucky for him, he was not an ordinary person. Otherwise, he would have been dead by now. Still, Philip did not dare to relax. Instead, he looked outside, while preparing himself to get out of the car.
  • It was a good thing that the driver’s door was still intact, and Philip tested it out, realizing that it could open. He was preparing himself, in case of anything, to jump out of the car when necessary.
  • The only sound in this place was the honking of the car, and the engine that was still running. The car’s hazard lights continued flickering, as Philip held his breath.
  • Just as he was observing, he suddenly noticed something from the corner of his eye. His pupils immediately contracted, and without hesitation, he hurled himself from his seat, moving towards the passenger seat.
  • The blood of the zombie that he had killed not long ago had not yet dried up, smearing on him. But he did not care, considering that just after he had moved from the driver’s seat, the creature collided with the car once again.
  • Baang!
  • The impact this time was way stronger than the previous ones.
  • In the very next instant of the collision, the side of the vehicle exploded inward with a thunderous crash. The creature had slammed into the truck, crushing the driver’s side door like paper. Metal folded and glass erupted, shards flying through the air as the force of the impact tilted the vehicle violently, nearly lifting it off its tires.
  • The dashboard split further, groaning under the strain, while the steering wheel twisted sideways with a metallic pop. Had Philip remained in his seat, the blow would have caved in his ribcage or snapped his spine.
  • But now, shielded on the opposite side, his enhanced body braced against the jolt. The passenger seat cracked beneath him as he absorbed the shaking shockwave, dust and glass raining from the ceiling. The roof dented overhead, as Philip clenched his jaw, body coiled like a spring.
  • A few seconds later, Philip finally managed to gather himself. He felt several areas of his body a little sore, with a mixture of dirt and glass shards on his body.
  • Several bruises had appeared, obviously caused by the flying glass shards. Despite his enhanced constitution, those sharp shards definitely could penetrate his defense.
  • Philip understood that he could not continue staying in the car. If he did, he might end up being compressed inside the car by the impact from the creature outside.
  • But at this point, Philip had noticed something. That was, this creature was extremely fast. In order to deal with it, he needed to be fast enough to be able to dodge its attacks, or run away.
  • As for directly colliding with it, considering the condition of the car at the moment, it was clearly not the best option. This creature either possessed incredible strength, or its body was extremely strong. Otherwise, it would have been impossible for the car to be reduced to such a state just from the collision with the creature.
  • Despite the hesitation that he felt, he used the 10 points that he had received after leveling up, putting all of them in improving his speed and agility. The speed was increased by 7 points pushing it to 19, and agility was increased by three points, pushing it to 16.
  • The agility was to boost his reflexes and reaction speed, while the speed was to allow him to be able to dodge where necessary. Even if his mind could react on time to the attack, if his body was not fast enough to dodge, then it would be useless. The same applied vice versa.
  • The moment that those 10 points were assigned, Philip felt a warm current washing through his body. At the same time, he felt that the speed at which things happened around him seemed to have slowed down by a certain margin.
  • It was also at this moment that Philip suddenly detected movement coming from a distance. It was clear that after this creature attacked, it would move to a distance, before coming back to attack again.
  • Philip’s pupils contracted once again. He understood that if the collision happened when he was inside the car, he would definitely get injured beyond the current situation now.
  • So, without any form of hesitation, using his explosive strength, he managed to pry the passenger door open. Due to the previous collision from the creature, the door had previously dented inside, making it impossible to opened by normal means.
  • Philip had no other choice but to use his brute strength in order to open it. And the moment that it did open, he jumped out of the car, before rushing away from it.
  • He had barely managed to take a few steps when the collision of the creature and the car happened. Philip did not hesitate to jump, managing to avoid the car that was suddenly overturned by the impact of the collision.
  • Philip rolled on the ground, before managing to stand up. The moment that he got back on his feet, he saw that a pair of dark brown eyes were staring at him full of bloodthirst.
