Chapter 5 Resources
- Philip understood. From the information that he had received when the apocalypse officially descended, it was clear that he had to kill. And from the little bits of information that he had gotten until now, it was clear that killing was the way to survival.
- According to the information that he had received about the apocalypse, it was clear that as time went on, things would only get more dangerous. There was evolution, and although he had not previously received the method of evolution from the information, he had already gotten an idea about it.
- After all, when he killed his first zombie, the experience bar appeared. And after he killed the second one, it changed from 1/10 to 2/10. It implied that he needed to kill at least 10 zombies. As for what would happen after that, Philip was not sure.
- Regardless, even if nothing really happened that would boost his strength after he killed 10 zombies, he was not that much worried. After all, each and every time that he killed a zombie, he would extract a certain amount of attribute points from the zombies, allowing him to be able to boost his strength.
- It seemed that he could only extract strength attribute from the zombies. After all, apart from the two zombies that he had killed first, the other two zombies that he had killed also granted him more strength.
- Compared to when the apocalypse descended, Philip felt that he was at least way stronger than before. That implied that as long as he killed quite a number of zombies, he would be able to grow stronger.
- It was just that since he was currently driving, he could not focus on the notifications that he had received before. So, he decided to simply focus on getting to the convenience store first.
- Considering that it only took about 20 minutes on foot, with a car, it was only about 2 minutes. But due to all the accidents that had happened on the road, Philip had to take quite a while to be able to arrive at the convenience store.
- Regardless, it only took him about 4 minutes. And the moment that he approached it, Philip realized something. The number of zombies here was obviously higher.
- This convenience store had its own parking space, and it was located on the left side of the road. While the parking space was not big, it could accommodate at least 10 small and medium-sized cars.
- Considering that the apocalypse had just arrived, Philip could see that there was still quite a number of people that was resisting the zombies. Due to the advantage that the humans had against the zombies in terms of speed, many people had been able to survive until now.
- Additionally, from the previous incident where the zombie did not manage to free itself when it was held back by the seat belt, it was clear that the zombies were currently mindless. As long as someone used their brain and speed, they will definitely be able to deal with some zombies, or even escape them.
- But if it came to just running without losing the zombies, with the infinite stamina of the zombies, the end result could already be imagined.
- Bang!
- The moment that the car stopped, a zombie had already arrived. The zombie that had arrived was banging at the window on the driver’s side. And from the intensity, Philip was slightly alarmed, realizing that this zombie might actually be able to break the window of the car.
- As long as it was given time, this zombie would definitely be able to break it. And from the looks of it, this zombie did not feel any kind of pain, due to how relentless it was. Additionally, looking at that twisted face that was looking at him with those gray eyes without pupils, Philip felt his heart race.
- While he had already dealt with quite a number of zombies already, this was just the first hour of the apocalypse. It was impossible for him to be able to adapt so suddenly.
- Bang!
- The door of the car opened suddenly, and with explosive force, knocking the zombie back. In the next moment, Philip stepped out of the car, before swinging the broken tree branch at the head of the zombie.
- The zombie that was just regaining its bearing was immediately killed the moment that its head exploded.
- Just after he killed the zombie, the familiar warm current appeared, and Philip felt that he had gotten stronger. But Philip had no time to waste, as he closed the door of the car. He had already taken the car keys, as he was planning to continue using this Toyota Tacoma in moving around.
- As for using a small car, that was an impossibility. With the strength that had been demonstrated by the zombies, if he used something small, and he was surrounded by the zombies, then the possibility of the zombies breaking into the car and dealing with him would be even higher.
- Philip had just managed to close the door of the car when suddenly, another zombie came charging at him. With his current experience in dealing with the zombies, together with his combat experience, Philip simply dodged the attack, before swinging the broken tree branch.
- Bang!
- Another head exploded, and another headless zombie collapsed on the ground. And with that, the addictive sensation of getting stronger arose once again.
- At this moment, Philip was feeling even more convinced. In order to be able to survive this apocalypse, one needed to get stronger. And currently, the only method to get stronger was obviously killing the zombies. Thinking about that, Philip hesitated no more, immediately rushing towards the convenience store.
- He understood one thing. He did not have infinite stamina. That implied that when dealing with the zombies, he had to deal with them as fast as possible. Otherwise, if he engaged in a lengthy battle, if he encountered a large number of zombies and had to deal with them, his stamina might fail him, despite his strength.
- He had noticed that while he was getting stronger, his stamina had not increased at all. But it was a good thing that he was an athlete. All the training that he had undergone boosted his stamina, implying that he would be able to last for quite a while.
- And as he approached the doors of the convenience store, two more zombies charged at him. Philip dealt with them just the same way as before, but he realized something. It seemed that it was getting easier and easier to burst the heads of the zombies.
- Philip immediately inferred this to his increase in strength. The stronger he was, the little effort he would require in order to be able to deal with the zombies.
- The moment that Philip got to the door of the convenience store, yet another zombie rushed out. This time, Philip did not have much space to maneuver, and had no choice but to kick towards the zombie. He did not dare to hold back.
- The strength that was contained within that kick made the zombie stumble backwards. But despite his strength, Philip realized that he could not actually do much damage to the zombie, if he attacked the other parts of its body.
- Regardless, with the zombie retreating, it had given him the chance to swing the broken branch at its head. And just like that, the zombie was swiftly dealt with.
- Philip was feeling lucky, considering that the location of this convenience store was not where many people could be found. Additionally, the convenience store itself was not that big, due to the population that it was serving.
- If it had been a convenience store that was in the city, at least deep within the city, Philip would definitely not have the audacity of rushing towards it like this. That would be a death wish.
- As he stepped through the glass door of the convenience store, the bell above still chiming like nothing had changed, he moved fast towards a certain direction. Considering that he had no backpack, he hastily took one of the biggest bags present within the convenience store.
- He then began moving through the aisles, grabbing several bottles of water, a six-pack of energy drinks, three protein bars, a fresh loaf of bread, 3 packs of instant noodles, a jar of peanut butter, a pack of batteries, a flashlight from the electronics section, a roll of duct tape, a compact first aid kit, a bottle of ibuprofen, antiseptic wipes, a lighter, a box of matches, a pair of work gloves, two wooden baseball bats from the sports rack, a pocket knife hanging by the counter, a phone charger, two packs of tissues, a packet of wet wipes, and a roll of toilet paper.
- Of course, it was not that easy for him to be able to collect all these things, as he had to move through the convenience store. Additionally, the convenience store itself was not empty, as there were quite a few zombies inside.
- But whenever a zombie approached him, Philip dealt with them as swiftly as possible. After dealing with a number of zombies, Philip received a notification. But considering the situation, he did not have the time to pay attention to the notification at all.
- He was not willing to be surrounded by the zombies, and left with no other choice but to stay within the convenience store.
- It might be safe for the time being, considering that the population outside the convenience store was not that high at the moment. But considering that the convenience store was close to a park, the number of zombies would only increase later on.
- So, in just a few minutes, having already taken what he needed, Philip wasted no more time, as he began rushing back towards the car. This time, with his new weapon, the wooden baseball bat, with the other one already shoved in the limited space of the duffel bag, he rushed back towards the pickup.
- The moment that he got back inside the pickup, he placed the bag in the back seats of the car. Then, after making sure that the doors of the pickup were locked, he unlocked the seat belt that was still holding the body of the female zombie, before throwing the body outside.
- Then, stepping on the accelerator after starting the engine, he drove away, crashing into two zombies along the way. This time, he was heading towards a road that led out of the city.
