Chapter 2 One bite at a time

  • ==Matteo==
  • Slowly, my eyes peeled open. I stared at the ceiling at some time, before finally rising. I perched on the edge of the bed and ran my hand across my hair.
  • I stood, walked to my closet, opened it and took out my bathrobe. When I turned around, my eyes met something…noteworthy. A dent on my floor. A scrowl grew on my face as I stared at the pile of littered clothing. A bra, a panty and a gown. I took my eyes to the woman on the bed. Her legs spread apart, the blanket unable to give proper coverage to her nude body.
  • I stared at her for a while, before leaving to brush my teeth. I walked down the hallway, into the balcony.
  • “Good morning, sir,” a servant said.
  • I took the newspaper from him and made myself comfortable on an armchair. Soon two other servants came and prepared my poison. Fruit salad and a cup of tea.
  • As I read the newspaper, I pierced my fork on the fruit salad. Taking one bite at a time.
  • “Send Ricardo for me,” I said.
  • In no time, the said servant was here.
  • “Excavate my room, would you?”
  • He nodded and left immediately. It didn’t take long for me to hear sounds of protest. It first came as a shriek.
  • “Fuck, don’t you know what knocking is?” she said. “Get out I want to change. I said get out.”
  • Then, her scream came. “Where's your boss? I’ll make sure your fired. Fuck you! Fuck.”
  • I remained unfazed by the commotion going in, and continued with my reading. Some time later, another servant came
  • “Sir. The board members are online now.”
  • I waved him off, stood and went to have a shower. I wore my suit and walked into my chambers.
  • I took a seat and got connected.
  • “Good morning, Sir.”
  • I said nothing, then one of the board members presented the agenda for the meeting. We ran through the agenda, and we came to the very last.
  • “We've still got some debtors, and—”
  • “Why’s that?”
  • “Well, sir…”
  • I raised my left brow, prompting him to go on with whatever he had to say.
  • “Most of them haven’t crossed their deadline.”
  • “And the others that have, what about them?” I asked.
  • “We are working on it.”
  • “I need a list of the debtors.”
  • “Of course, sir.”
  • With that, the meeting was ended. I stared at the now blank laptop, a wave of frustration enveloping me. I hated the fact that I wasn't physically present in the meeting, but it was better that way.
  • I rested on the chair, shutting my eyes as I went through everything that was talked about in the meeting. Debtors. As much as I derived joy in getting my stuff whenever a debtor didn’t meet with the target, I was just so done with hearing their pleas. Especially the man that called himself Pete. He had burrowed a huge sum of money from me, and hadn’t paid me. This was the middle of April. It was time for me to take what belonged to me.
