Chapter 4

  • Inside the Legacy Restaurant in the City of Beng.
  • The night is young and two people are drinking their hearts desire as their day of work come to end.
  • "Did your father visited you again?" asked Tristan referring to Ivan's dream.
  • Ivan just nodded his head.
  • "This has been going for months now, Ivan. I think you should go visit that place that he want you to find him. Maybe this can help you find out what really happen to him. Your dad's case has been bothering you anyway ever since." Tristan suggested
  • Tristan's father has been missing for four years now. Public investigation has been stopped since police the can't find any leads. So, Ivan has been planning to do a personal investigation. But due to his family's condition it never materialize.
  • "Granny said the same thing too. But I really can't just go. It is not that I don't want. It is that I can't really afford. Specially now that mom just had an another attack. Her doctor is suggesting to change her medicine, naturally to a much more expensive one." Ivan rebutted
  • "Oh! Sorry about that. So how's your mom doing now?" Tristan sympathize.
  • "Well, the last time I checked she seems stable..." Ivan paused for moment the continued. "I really don't know what dad wants me to do. I do believe he wants me check something back at our old house, that is why he keep appearing in my dreams. But I hope he understand.
  • Going alone will take me days. And if I am to conduct an investigation it may take weeks, months or even years. Where will I get money for my family's financial needs when that happens."
  • Tristan just keep his silent and let Ivan let out his thoughts.
  • "It's like I'm being pulled at two different direction. Being tore apart. Being force to choose between mom and dad." Ivan continued dejectedly.
  • Unknown to the two, a third person had been silently listening at the back. He finally approached them and said. "So, there is such a thing, huh. What if I can help?"
  • The two were surprised. They turn around to see the man approaching.
  • "Good evening Mr. Reyes!" they greeted.
  • They were about stand up but Mr. Reyes waved his hand.  "I don't know your whole story but I think I can help."
  • "About that... I..." Ivan was about to decline but was stopped by Mr. Reyes.
  • "Don't get me wrong Ivan. It's not that I will be helping you out of nowhere. You been doing some errands for me for two years now, right?"
  • Ivan ponder for a moment before answering. "Yes. But I was already been paid for those jobs that you asked me, Mr. Reyes."
  • Mr. Reyes shook his head then said. "Quite but not totally. Do you really think that doing errands has the same rate as being a waiter?"
  • "?"
  • Both Ivan and Tristan was speechless with what they just heard. Tristan and their co-workers really pitied Ivan when he was being asked to do errands. It was true that being a waiter is also a hard job but at most their busiest could for 2 to 3 hours only. That is during lunch or dinner time. While doing errands is doing hard for almost the entire duration of the job.
  • Mr. Reyes continued. "Every time I asked you out of your regular job I actually rate you twice compared to your salary as waiter. And since the opening of Legacy Restaurant almost haft of your shift as a waiter, I pulled you out to do errands."
  • As he was talking he pulled out the a bank card in his pocket. He pointed at the bank card number the asked.
  • "Ivan you are familiar with this card number?"
  • Ivan look at those numbers and nodded in surprise. Yes, he was very familiar with those number. Every time he was asked to do errands, the last thing he was asked do is to deposit some money in this bank number.
  • He never know who is the owner but he assumed that it was Mr. Reyes himself. Ivan thought his boss might treating this as his own salary since it was exactly the same as their daily wage.
  • "The owner of this card is you. This is the half of salary when doing errands. Since the restaurant is more than two years now then expect that the money in this card is almost like your annual salary as a waiter." Mr. Reyes explained
  • Ivan was still hesitant when Mr. Reyes hand him the card but Tristan, who silent during the conversation, finally said
  • "Ivan, I think you deserve it. You had worked hard for it."
  • Hearing Tristan had to say, only then did Ivan receive the card tearfully. Finally he can fulfill what his father wants without sacrificing his responsibilities to her mother and sister.
  • "Hehe don't be a cry baby. I'm giving you 6 months leave. 2 months of which is with pay. I'll send it in your bank card. By the way the PIN is your birth date." After saying this, Mr. Reyes turned around and leave without giving Ivan a chance to reject.
  • "This..." Ivan muttered. "can, can I really go?"
  • Tristan patted excitedly Ivan shoulder. "Yes Ivan, your opportunity had presented itself. You now have 6 months do what you have to do."
  • ‐-------------------
  • After returning to his office, Mr. Reyes immediately made a call.
  • "Hello master!" a man answered respectfully.
  • "I think my subject will make his move in this next two days."
  • "Wow, that's a good news master. Even though we don't have much expectation from him but at least one more person means additional hope." said the man at opposite side of the call.
  • "That was before, I think I'm more optimistic to him now."
  • "Oh, did something happen master? Why did you suddenly become optimistic to him?"
  • "I heard their conversation with his co-worker. I think he been dreaming of his father for the past few months. Asking for him to do something in their old place."
  • The man at the other line was silent for few minutes, he seem to be thinking of something before he said. "But... the thing is Ivan is not even a martial artist. He may be Andrew's son but..."
  • He wish to continue but he know for sure that his master already had an idea of what he meant. He doesn't want his master to put so much hope to someone not even qualified for the job. After all they had been disappointed countless times in the past.
  • Mr. Reyes pondered for a while before he answered, "Partly you are right but... I think physically I had prepared him will enough. He just need proper training. And with the Pollard family around, we will be hoping for him in the next few months."
  • He was was not just asking Ivan do the errands for business but also secretly strengthening him for bigger purpose.
  • "We'll wait and see then... So master, when will you be coming back?"
  • "I think I need to stay here for 2 months more. This place has quite a potential. I want to put Legacy Restaurant at the top before I'll leave. The purpose of being low key has achieved it's goal anyway. So it's about time to turn this place as one of our financial source. We need money for our operation after all."
  • "Do you need us then to send you one of our people to manage the place after you leave?"
  • "No need, I think my current employees are trustworthy. I just need to train one of them to lead when I have to go back."
