• Fury still simmered in my veins as Ami and I sat tucked away in a private corner of my friend’s Italian restaurant. She kept trying to smile whenever our eyes met, but the pallor of her skin and the rigid way she held herself betrayed just how shaken she really was.
• I’d only been gone for three days. Three goddamned days and that was all it took for the company to spiral into chaos. And of course, Ami had been right in the middle of the storm, left to handle the wreckage on her own.
