• Cold. That was the first thing I felt. Not just on my skin it sank into me, bone-deep, gnawing and relentless. Then came the pain. It surged over me in a scalding wave, dragging a strangled breath from my lungs. My ribs burned. I couldn’t expand my chest more than an inch before agony clamped down like a vice.
• When I finally forced my eyes open, I was swallowed by darkness. Complete, suffocating black. I couldn’t see a thing. My heart pounded, confusion spiraling into panic. Where was I? Was I alone? What had they done to me?
