  • Hours had passed since I’d returned from the residence, but the tension in my body refused to ease. My muscles stayed taut, my stomach coiled in knots as my mind spun through countless possibilities. I clenched my jaw, teeth grinding in frustration over the crumbs of information Father had handed me just enough to cause unease, but far from anything concrete I could dissect or investigate.
