- My neck throbbed like hell. For a brief moment, I genuinely feared it had locked itself at an awkward angle as I struggled upright from the torturously rigid settee. Uncomfortable as it was, it had still seemed like the safer choice compared to what might’ve happened if I’d stayed in bed.
- Renzo greeted me with a nonchalant “morning” tossed over his shoulder before vanishing into the bathroom and letting the sound of running water mask his presence. I exhaled slowly, comforted by his casual demeanor. Maybe just maybe he hadn’t noticed that at some point during the night, I’d sprawled across him like a cat claiming warmth.
- God, I sincerely hoped he’d been fast asleep when that happened.
