Chapter 44 Debt Paid; It Still Isn't Enough
- The soft hiss of the suite’s sliding door could be heard as Kael pushed his way back inside. The president was seated near the window wall, the sea stretching endlessly behind him like a painting and a tray of steaming dishes sat between them. The man’s eyes brightened when Kael entered, as though the bodyguard were some long-absent friend.
- “There you are,” the president said warmly, gesturing toward the table. “I ordered food. Thought you might want a plate for once instead of skulking in corners.”
- Kael set the tray down beside him with a controlled, deliberate motion. “You shouldn’t order anything without it being checked,” he muttered.
