- The alley had gone quiet. The three men who’d tried to corner Liora were either unconscious or moaning. Kellen Hurst, clutching his broken thumb and pride, whimpered as Kael turned toward the janitor.
- “You okay?” he asked.
- Liora didn’t answer immediately. She looked at him, really looked, as if searching for the right words. Her lips parted slightly.
