Chapter 28 Hospital Breach
- He didn’t finish the sentence. The phone on the buzzed hard, scooting a few millimeters across the stone. Liora snatched it up.
- “Hello?” A nurse’s voice, clipped and tight. “Miss Liora—please listen. The hospital is in lockdown. Armed men came through the ER and pediatrics. We’re sheltering in place. The ORs are closed. I’m so sorry—Mayla’s surgery can’t start.”
- Liora’s breath broke. The telephone slid from her hands and clattered on the floor. She folded where she stood and cried into her palms, breath hitching like she was drowning.
