Chapter 27 The Truth

  • Her breath hitched. She drew back on reflex and bumped the back of her knees against the bed. She sat down without meaning to, eyes wide.
  • “Why would they think—” She cut herself off. Memory flashed: his hand on her back, the way security had moved around them, the looks, the whispers. The dress he’d insisted she wear. The way he’d stood in front of her when a camera swung close. A pattern she hadn’t wanted to admit was there.
  • She stared at the floor, voice almost a whisper. “You did that. You made them think that.”
