  • The other shifter students at school had transitioned from offering me quiet, nearly sympathetic avoidance all morning to a sudden, frantic sprint away from me. It left me feeling utterly perplexed. What was I missing?

However, it was something else entirely I had witnessed; there was worry and fear etched on their expressions, even if only to a slight degree. That mere flicker of anxiety was sufficient to send my heart racing and my blood pressure soaring, igniting a deep concern within me.
  • Earlier that morning, Andrew had shot me a glare during class, a wicked expression that came laced with all sorts of sinister thoughts he must have been contemplating about me. The vile essence of that look lingered in my mind, making me shiver as I remembered it. Yet, amidst that troubling confrontation and the other students' deliberate avoidance of even glancing in my direction, the morning had actually been relatively smooth sailing so far.
