Chapter 137

  • The war that raged around me was unlike anything I had ever experienced; it was brutal and unforgiving. Just two rows behind me, I could hear the unmistakable death rattle of a man succumbing to his injuries. I turned my gaze in horror as I watched the vitality drain from his body, his eyes taking on a glaze of oblivion while grotesque gurgling sounds escaped from his lips mingled with blood. I bit back a scream that threatened to escape my throat. If death was claiming them at such a rapid pace, the bullets they were using must have been laced with poison or perhaps there were so many wounds inflicted that the healing process simply could not commence.
  • The sound of another agonizing scream cut through the chaos, followed by a resounding thud that reverberated through the air, making me flinch. There was no way in hell that I was willing to look; I was too terrified to face what lay behind me. My senses were alive with the growls of those combatants who had transformed into their full forms. Each anguished howl released tufts of fur that drifted to the ground, a stark reminder of the violence unfolding around me. Hiding here wouldn't last for long; eventually, they would come looking for me. I needed a plan, desperately.
  • Before I could navigate through my swirling thoughts, a hand reached down and seized my arm. I was yanked upwards, pain shooting from my elbow to my shoulder at the force of the pull. My eyes met those of Bea, and a wave of questions surged through my mind. Why on Earth was I here? I strained to free myself, but my efforts were in vain. Bea simply smirked, and that infuriated me. No, I wasn't as strong as her; I definitely didn't have the strength of an alpha. But I refused to be seen as weak.
