Chapter 136 Second Chances By The Lake

  • I decide that the best place to go right now is far away from the packlands—somewhere quiet where Ash can clear his head. The nearest coffee shop seems perfect. Driving along the back roads that snake out of the Moonveil Pack, I keep my focus on the road while the trees blur past. Ash sits silently beside me, staring blankly out the window. His usual spark is gone, replaced by something fragile and raw. My chest tightens. Finding out your soulmate is considered a criminal in your pack isn’t something anyone can prepare for.
  • The pack border finally comes into view just as Like a Prayer by Madonna starts playing softly through the speakers. I nod at the wolves on duty and tell them we’ll be back in about two hours. The tires crunch over gravel as we pass through, and soon the sound mixes with the music, fading as we hit the smooth highway leading toward town.
