Chapter 4
- Amara walked down the hotel hallway with a new sense of purpose. The memories from her previous life haunted her, but this time, she felt no fear, no hesitation. She knew exactly what was coming. In her past life, this very hallway had been the scene of her public humiliation, a vicious ambush planned by her mate, Joshua, and his mistress, her step-sister Lucy. The paparazzi had been tipped off, and they had eagerly snapped photos of her as Joshua and Lucy spread lies, painting her as a cheater. Her reputation in the werewolf community had been destroyed overnight, and she had been left broken and alone.
- But not this time.
- This time, Amara was prepared. Her heart pounded steadily as she walked, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. The dim light from the windows cast long shadows along the corridor, but she was focused on the path ahead. She was ready for whatever was about to happen. ‘They wouldn’t break her this time.’
- As soon as she rounded the corner, the paparazzi swarmed her, just like they had in her past life. The cameras flashed, capturing her every move, and the familiar chorus of voices rose in a frenzy.
- “There she is!”
- “Amara! Is it true you slept with another man?”
- “Shameless!”
- “You’re a disgrace to the pack!”
- Amara didn’t flinch. Instead, she straightened her shoulders, meeting their accusations with a calm and calculated expression. They thought they had her cornered, that she would break down and cry like before. But they were in for a surprise.
- Amidst the flashing cameras, a shrill voice cut through the chaos. “You shameless hoe! How dare you sleep with someone else when you have a mate?” The voice was filled with venom, and Amara knew exactly who it belonged to.
- Karen, Joshua’s mother, stormed toward her with fury etched across her face. Her eyes burned with resentment, and her hands were clenched into fists. In her past life, Amara had been too stunned to respond, too shocked by the public accusation to defend herself. But this time, she was ready.
- Amara smiled inwardly. ‘This is about to get interesting.’
- “And who told you I slept with someone?” Amara fired back, her voice loud and clear, silencing the paparazzi for a moment.
- Clearly taken aback by Amara’s boldness, Karen hesitated for a second. Amara had always been soft-spoken in her past life, never one to raise her voice or fight back. But this new Amara? She was different.
- “The waiter saw you enter a man’s room last night!” Karen hissed, regaining her composure. “And you didn’t come out until now. Look at you; you’re still in your dress from last night! What kind of Luna behaves like this?” Her voice was filled with righteous indignation, and the crowd of paparazzi nodded in agreement, ready to pounce on the scandal.
- Amara glanced down at her dress, which was the same red gown she had worn to the council ball. It was true that she hadn’t changed, but that was only because she had been too focused on the previous night's events to worry about her appearance. ‘Not that it mattered.’ She raised her head, meeting Karen’s glare with cold defiance.
- “So, what if I am?” Amara said, her tone icy. “Joshua cheated on me first. We’re not together anymore. It’s a relief to be finally free from your useless son!”
- Her words echoed through the hallway, and a collective gasp rose from the crowd. The paparazzi practically buzzed excitedly, their cameras clicking furiously as they sensed the drama unfolding before them.
- Karen’s face twisted in shock and disbelief. In her mind, she had expected Amara to cower in shame, not stand up for herself. This wasn’t the reaction she had planned for.
- “You cheated on my son, and now you accuse him of being a cheat?” Karen’s voice was filled with anger. “How shameless can you be?”
- Amara took a step closer, her eyes flashing with anger. “Your son has been cheating on me for months with my step sister Lucy. He betrayed me long before any of this happened. So please don’t come here and pretend I’m at fault. You’ve known about it, haven’t you? You knew all along, and you let it happen!”
- Karen’s eyes widened in shock, but before she could respond, Amara continued, her voice ringing with authority. “I won’t let you or anyone else paint me as the villain. I’m done being the victim of your family’s lies and manipulation. Joshua is a coward, and you’re no better for defending him.”
- The paparazzi were in a frenzy now, their cameras capturing every moment of the heated exchange. Amara could see the reporters practically salivating at the prospect of publishing the scandal. But this time, she was in control of the narrative.
- Karen, desperate to regain control of the situation, lunged forward, her hand raised to slap Amara. But Amara had anticipated the move. She sidestepped Karen’s attempt with quick reflexes, causing the older woman to stumble.
- Karen lost her balance, her eyes widening in panic as she fell forward. The room seemed to freeze for a moment as she hit the ground with a thud. The collective gasp from the onlookers filled the air, and for a brief second, there was silence.
- “Ahhh!” Karen screamed, her voice laced with pain and embarrassment. She writhed on the ground, clutching her wrist where she had tried to break her fall. Her carefully curated image as the dignified mother of the Alpha’s son was crumbling before everyone’s eyes.
- Amara stood over her, her expression unreadable. She could feel the paparazzi and the crowd's eyes on her, waiting to see what she would do next.
- “I suggest you get up,” Amara said coolly, her voice carrying through the hallway. “Before you make an even bigger fool of yourself.”
- Karen glared up at her, but the damage was done. Her attempt to humiliate Amara had backfired spectacularly. Slowly, she struggled to her feet, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. The paparazzi were still snapping photos, but the narrative had shifted.
- This wasn’t the public shaming Amara had endured in her past life. This time, she had taken control. She had exposed the truth, stood up for herself, and clarified that she wouldn’t be anyone’s victim.
- Karen, seething with rage, pointed a trembling finger at Amara.
- “What is going on here?” A voice echoed.
- Amara smiled. Just the couple she had been waiting for! It was Her mate Joshua and Lucy.
