Chapter 27

• Amara’s steps echoed faintly as she walked through the grand corridors of Lucy’s temporary estate. She had left their confrontation moments earlier, fury and determination coursing through her veins. Lucy’s taunts had cut deep, but they had also emboldened her. She needed to strategize, to bring the evidence of Lucy’s crimes to Xander and Asher, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right. The estate felt too quiet, too empty.
• As she reached the main courtyard, she froze. Shadows shifted in the corners, figures emerging from the darkness like wraiths. Rogues. Amara counted at least a dozen, their eyes glinting with feral hunger. They formed a loose circle around her, cutting off any escape routes. At the center of the courtyard, Lucy stepped forward, her smirk as sharp as a blade.
• “Leaving so soon, dear sister?” Lucy called out, her voice dripping with mockery. “We were just getting to the good part.”
