• I watched through the east wing windows of the mansion as Ethan stormed out of Maddie's apartment. His leaving was long overdue, and I wondered what he was doing in there all this while, not to have left with the elders.
• It was too bad that the elders had decided to pay that whore and her child a visit. It was as though they were agreeing that the child was Ethan's, accepting him as the heir to this pack. Even though I knew that the child would not live to bear that title, it still hurt me to see him get treated as something special.
