• My entire body went still the moment I heard the gunshot. Who was being shot? I was fully aware that Vanessa had a gun on her. Adrian had jumped on both of us unarmed. As much as I was mad at Adrian, I was not going to appreciate having him die just after he had saved me from death.
• Gently and slowly, I spun around and my eyes went over to Vanessa and Adrian to see her seated on top of him. There was a gun in her hand and my heart beat tripled as I feared that the worst had happened.
