Chapter 42
- Tony came back carrying several grocery bags containing food items, clothes and cleaning tools. As he pulled open the door, he noticed several empty cans of beer littering the table and floor. He frowned, remembering that they had only taken two cans before he left and from the times he spent with Ruby, she had never been one to enjoy drinking.
- Closing the door, he dropped the bags and walked up to the window, opening it to let in air. "Why did you drink so much?" he questioned worriedly as he noticed her sitting in the dark corner with her knees folded up and her hands wrapped around it. "I lost the ability to get drunk" she replied with a dry laugh, leaving Tony confused.
- "What does that mean? And why did you wish to get drunk?" He probed and sat opposite her on the floor. "For us humans, getting drunk is an escape mechanism. It helps us forget, even if it's just for a brief moment, we become free of our worries, but now I lost the ability to get drunk, do you know what that means? I can't forget not even for a moment, not even in my sleep, the cries, the bodies," She sighed and buried her face between her folded arms.
