• We pull up to the Opal Pack, and for the first time, I feel nervous. Elara is sitting in the back seat, chewing on her fingernails. She doesn't think she is strong enough to face Ares without the final mark on her neck.
• I know I will mark her eventually; I don't know what is holding me back. I guess I thought when I did, it would be an intimate moment between the two of us, not some hasty marking in the back of my car.
