Chapter 72 I Think I Like Him

  • Spring has passed and with it summer has arrived. Time went by so fast I didn't even notice. Between the fortnightly comings and goings to my house, I saw Dom sporadically. There were no meetings outside the secret group between us. My family was fine. I hadn't seen Kevin in a long time. My mother hadn't heard from him either, and that worried us. It was the time he went the longest without giving us any news. My father was increasingly depressed. Kim knew everything that happened to me, as usual. Even apart, we managed to be inseparable.
  • I managed, after much conversation with the princes, to change some things in the servants' dormitory. Windows were placed in the rooms that did not have them and the hallway gained more powerful and stronger lights. I was still trying to convince them to change the days off to weekly instead of biweekly. But that would have to go through the queen. However Dereck liked my claim and promised to defend it at court, without the queen's knowledge so she could not intervene. I was hoping to get it right.
  • Although the idea of giving gifts to the prince was mine and I wanted it to look like his, the queen stole the show and all the newspapers reported her supposed change in attitude lately. I knew it was all a lie, and though I fought for the move to aim for Magnus's coronation, it was getting more and more impossible. Days before the tons of food were distributed, on the front pages of every newspaper was Victoria and Magnus and the long-awaited royal engagement. I practically forced Magnus to go with the food, so he knew the zones and could talk to the people who would receive them. However the queen went along. It was not her intention to let Magnus take any laurels for his generosity. And so the royalty got to know several poor areas of the kingdom, which perhaps would never have been in their lives if it wasn't for that event. The queen showed nothing afterwards. But Magnus was very moved by what he saw. So he wanted monthly reports on jobs and unemployment in the kingdom. And from there I started to see a political Magnus that I didn't know until then. He and Dereck always planned everything together. It was a perfect pair. I even think Dereck would be as good a king as Magnus. And there, watching the two make future plans in our workroom, I felt privileged to have gotten to know better those two men who had such great power in their hands to change the lives of so many people. And I knew they would.
