Chapter 4 Fall To The Monarchy!

  • I never thought finding a job would be so difficult. I really wore out the sole of my most expensive pumps and even my good looks didn't help. The role I'd gotten in college helped keep me from saying no completely. They kept my resume, which was practically blank, and promised to call me as soon as there was a vacancy. I couldn't afford to wait. I needed the job urgently.
  • In the late afternoon, I went back to college and went to meet my friends at our secret place. Everyone was already waiting for me.
  • - So, any news? asked Kim. – Did you get the job?
  • - Of course. - I said throwing my bag away and sitting on a table, completely exhausted.
  • I took off my shoes and said:
  • - Blisters... I got blisters from walking so much. I said in horror.
  • - Did you try with the dean? asked Diana.
  • - Do you know anyone who got a job with the dean, Diana? I asked curiously.
  • - Yes... Some girls from my classes.
  • - And... Boys?
  • She thought for a moment and said:
  • - No.
  • I took a deep breath and told them what had happened that morning. To my surprise Leo was furious. He got up and walked back and forth:
  • - We have to report it.
  • - I agree. But someone is going to have to actually record it. I bluffed... and luckily he believed it.
  • - Friend, you are very waiting. - said Kim.
  • - I know that... If it wasn't, I would have slept with him for a job. I got the role and didn't have to use my body. - I said smiling ironically.
  • - What made him think he would use this body? – Leo asked hugging me. - I'm sad for you, my beautiful.
  • - I don't... - I confessed.
  • Everyone looked at me.
  • - Think, I beat that imbecile. - I justified myself.
  • - She's right. said Diana.
  • - I still don't think we can leave it like this. - said Leo. “We can trap him. What if we used you, Diana?
  • - I?
  • I knew it wouldn't work. Diana was too shy to be bait. And after what I'd done, Justus must have been a lot smarter by now.
  • - This macabre system. continued Leo. – Who use women as objects.
  • - Exactly. It's the monarch's fault.
  • - Honey, it's the world's fault. - replied Kim. – Who doesn't accept that beautiful girls can be intelligent, who thinks that everything someone asks can get something for their own benefit, who thinks that gays are not normal people... And so on.
  • - He's right. said Diana.
  • - You know that there must be more groups against the monarchy in various parts of the kingdom. - I said.
  • - Yea.
  • - We are a small group, so we can continue. But I don't think we'll get any change the four of us, other than talking. We need to be part of a larger group. We have to find other people who think like us.
  • - But finding these people is a risk. said Diana.
  • - If we don't try, we won't know.
  • - Actually the monarchy has gone bad since Queen Anne took over. As long as the king was in good health, we did not have the misery and tyranny of today. – remembered Leo.
  • - That's true. And we need to be careful. Noriah North has been trying to overthrow the monarchy for a long time and what have they achieved? Break the country and live in absolute misery. It is not enough to break the monarchy... It is necessary to know what we want after its fall. – Kim observed.
  • - But there are rumors that Prince Magnus will marry and take the throne in Queen Anne's place. said Diana.
  • - I don't see Queen Anne ever leaving the crown. - I said. - She loves being queen... She wants to be idolized, to rule, to have subjects...
  • - That's true. - said Kim. – The queen loves being queen.
  • We all laugh.
  • - Imagine a handsome king like Magnus Chevalier. I think I would even bend to monarchy. Kim confessed.
  • - Come on, Kim, you're not serious. - said Leo.
  • - That he is beautiful or that I would bow to the monarchy? he asked laughing.
  • - Both...
  • - He is perfect. said Diana.
  • - And do you also find this absurd, Kat? – asked Leo, attentive to what I would say.
  • - Honestly, not that I'm oblivious to everything that happens in the royal family, but if I close my eyes I don't remember Prince Magnus. The queen owns all the attention and merchandising in the kingdom, giving no space to anyone. She wants to be unique. This is my vision. But if I met Prince Dereck on the street, I would recognize him.
  • - Honey, you'll never find Prince Dereck on the street. - said Kim. “And if I found him, I'd grab him and kidnap him. I think he's even cuter than Magnus.
  • – He also loves a spotlight. - I observed. – He doesn't have a social network, but he lives in photos of people from A and B. He is always at night, at the most important clubs, with the most famous artists and singers. He took after his mother.
  • - Good thing he only takes over the kingdom if Magnus dies. - said Leo.
  • - Do you think Magnus is better than Dereck? I asked.
  • - Of course yes. said Diana. – He's sensible, he's serious... I've never seen him in a club or in a photo on a social network. Only in the newspapers and on TV. He speaks well...
  • I laughed:
  • - They're both horrible. They are Queen Anne's children, there is no way they can be good people.
  • - What does your father think about when the kingdom was ruled by King Alfred? asked Leo.
  • - I never talked to my father about it. - I confessed.
  • - It should. - he said. “My father said that it was a golden age in Noriah Sul. King Alfred was serious and at the same time he listened to people. He tried to find solutions that would always benefit everyone. He was a man who really cared about all the people.
  • - That's not what the books say. – Diana said.
  • - I bet Queen Anne had everything written in the history books.
  • We burst out laughing again. Kim was always funny and even in serious matters we managed to be happy with his comments. I loved having him as my best friend. And I was also happy to have friends so smart and full of causes to fight with.
  • - Well, the matter is good and I could stay here until tomorrow talking about how much I hate the monarchy. But I need to go. - I spoke.
  • - Good luck in your house. - said Kim. - Anything calls me.
  • - You can, friend. Love you.
  • I said goodbye to them and was leaving when Leo closed the door and stood in front of me, blocking my way:
  • - How am I going to get by without seeing her every day?
  • I laughed:
  • - You'll survive, you silly.
  • He tried to kiss me, but I turned away and the kiss caught my cheek.
  • - When are you going to accept being my girlfriend? – he continued.
  • - Leo, please, I don't have time for this today... I'm tired, upset.
  • - Honey, you know that if we date and get married, you won't have any more financial problems.
  • - Leo, I know that. But I don't want to marry you for money. I need to love you.
  • - But you can love me in time...
  • I smoothed his face and said:
  • - Thank you for existing in my life.
  • He opened the door and let me out.
  • When I got home I took a shower and put on comfortable clothes. I explained to my mother that I had not been able to get a job that day. I thought Laura Lee would curse me, but no. On the contrary, she was very kind:
  • - I knew it would be like this, my daughter. You will get something. Do not give up.
  • I felt sorry for my mother. I realized how tired she was of it all. And I didn't want her to give up. We were all there thanks to her. Laura Lee was a strong, decisive woman who did everything alone in our house. I never thought she and my dad were a happy couple. They respected each other, but lately my mother had completely lost respect for him after he had lost everything we had to his gambling addiction. I don't know what led them to ever marry, but I was sure they weren't in love. My father was always more sensitive and affectionate. She, the rock that held everything together. She was the one who encouraged us in everything and tried to push my brother towards a life with correct attitudes, for me to go to college even without being sure of the course I wanted:
  • - Do anything... If you need to, then change it. The important thing is to be inside, studying. - she said.
  • And so I heard it. She always worried about my brother Leon too. Laura Lee was the one who kept us together, despite all the difficulties. I wanted her to be happy and I was afraid she would give up due to so many difficulties she encountered.
