Chapter 10 No One Die From It

  • Spending the night at Noriah's castle wasn't in my plans. Much less meeting the two princes on the same day and being called an anti-monarchist. Dereck was more or less what I imagined him to be: a boy-faced man who spoke his mind. But the fact that they cared about me somehow impressed me greatly. I was just an ordinary E-zone girl looking for a job at the castle. Come to think of it, it wasn't just any job; I would be side by side with Queen Anne, their mother. So in a way it was an important position within the castle. Now, being rescued by Magnus really wasn't in my plans. He was a very discreet man, his image rarely appeared in the media. Usually he was more on television appearances, live. As I didn't watch much, I ended up not knowing much about him or what he looked like. I knew he was handsome... However, I didn't know he could be more than handsome. I remembered the last thing I thought when I fell into his arms was that I was being taken to heaven by an angel. Laugh alone. Was I really thinking about Prince Magnus after all the surreal that had happened to me that day? How ashamed I felt: in the castle infirmary, for lack of food. Can be worse? Yes, fall into the prince's arms. On the bright side, they cared about me. And I wasn't even sure why. Maybe just the fact that a pretty girl had fallen out of one of their arms. I knew I wasn't good for an ugly woman, although I thought the lack of makeup didn't do me any favors. I wasn't a professional makeup artist, but Kim had taught me a lot of tricks that let me cover up my weaknesses and highlight my strengths. So I hoped that, even without makeup, I'd made a good impression. But why did I want to make a good impression? Would the princes be able to help me somehow to get the job at the castle? But would they do it for some reason? I didn't even know why I was thinking about a thousand things at once.
  • Louise arrived again, carrying a tray of milk, tea, sweet and savory biscuits, and a beautiful apple. I was so hungry I didn't even say anything. I accepted everything that was offered to me and ate savoring each food. In the end, while she watched me the whole time, I handed her the empty tray and said:
  • - Thank you for the feast, Louise.
