Chapter 85 I Need Money, Your Highness

  • I alternated between standing and sitting next to my mother, who didn't shed a single tear. I wondered why I wanted her to cry? Everyone there knew that she didn't feel the loss of her husband very much. Adolfo Lee had been a good father in my opinion, but he had been an alcoholic in the past and an addicted gambler. He had lost money and everything we had, and he hit rock bottom when he lost the last thing he had: his house. My mother always had to take care of the children, the house and find a way to make life without being traumatized by everything we went through and the scarcity of financial resources we had. Eventually, I discovered that she had been betrayed in the worst way possible: my father had an out-of-wedlock relationship with the wife of his best friend, in this case, the wicked queen of Noriah, Anne Marie Chevalier. I felt disgust at the thought of my father having sex with that cruel woman. How could he? Laura Lee was a beautiful, strong, decisive woman, she managed everything alone in that family. And did I expect tears from her at the funeral? No... My mother was being what she always was: realistic and strong. Kevin wouldn't care too much about everything either. He perhaps knew a lot more than I did about all the suffering my mother had gone through over the years. Each person would feel it in a way... I couldn't ask them to feel the death of Adolfo Lee as much as I did.
  • It took a few hours for my house to receive numerous guards from Noriah along with Princes Magnus and Dereck Chevalier, bringing with them my brother, Kevin.
  • - Good night, Lee family. We come in the name of our father King Alfred Chevalier to bring our most sincere condolences to you. - Magnus said gently, looking at me.
