• I went back inside the room as soon as he walked out of the door and into the garden, feeling my stomach begin to coil into some sort of knot. Something was off, and yet I couldn't quite tell what. I tried to shake the feeling; maybe it was just me overthinking, as always. Maybe I was imagining things, but the tension between Xylene and me felt heavy. He didn't say a word, neither did I, but the silence between us seemed to scream louder than any words that we had shared.
