• I sat in the living room, nervously glancing at the clock. Xylene had gone to the hospital earlier, and I was waiting for him to return. I didn’t like being alone, especially not today. My mind kept racing, replaying the conversation I had overheard earlier between Xylene and Miles. What if Miles remembered me? What if he came looking for me? I couldn’t shake the fear. I hated the way he looked at me that day. It felt like he saw right through me, and I couldn’t escape the thought that he might come after me.
