- Nathan's POV
- I stepped back, staring at the door like it had betrayed me too. My jaw clenched as I swallowed the lump in my throat. “I was a coward,” I said, even if no one was listening. “I didn’t see you. Not really. Not the way a husband should. And I know apologizing won’t erase anything, but I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make it up to you—if you’d let me.”
- A soft creak echoed from the hallway behind me. A neighbor peeking out from their door, curious. I gave them a nod and walked back down the hall.
