Chapter 216
- Third person pov
- Mr. Carrington sat heavily at the polished oak table in the private waiting area of the hospital. The weight of the document before him seemed greater than the pen he held could ever manage. The consent form for the air ambulance had been explained twice by the attending physician, yet his eyes still hovered over the lines as though they might shift into something less heartbreaking if he stared long enough. His hand trembled faintly, the veins across it visible, betraying the storm he tried so hard to bury beneath a façade of dignity.
- Elizabeth. His wife. His other half. The woman he had built an empire with, weathered storms with, and loved for decades. And now he was signing papers to carry her across the ocean because her frail body couldn’t endure commercial travel. This was not how he ever imagined their final years together.
